Accessibility Statement

A lot of you read this site one-handed, in the dark, with a baby asleep on your chest. Some of you read it with a screen reader, or with the text zoomed way up, or without a mouse at all. All of that counts, and I want My Mama Mode to work for every one of you.

Our commitment

This site aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the widely used standard for making web content usable by people with disabilities. That's the target I build and test against, and accessibility gets checked when new pages and features go live, not bolted on afterward.

What's in place today

• Keyboard navigation. Every interactive thing on this site — links, buttons, menus, the quiz, the activity generator, the newsletter forms — works with a keyboard alone. No mouse required, no keyboard traps.
• Visible focus states. When you tab through the page you can always see where you are.
• A skip link. "Skip to content" is the first thing in the tab order, so you don't have to walk through the whole nav on every page.
• Real buttons and real links. Controls are actual <button> and <a> elements with proper roles, labels, and ARIA attributes where they're needed — dialogs announce themselves, and open/closed states are exposed to assistive tech.
• Alt text on images. Meaningful images carry descriptions; purely decorative ones are hidden from screen readers so they don't add noise.
• Colour contrast. Text and interface colours are chosen to meet AA contrast ratios in both light and dark mode.
• Light and dark mode. The whole site adapts, and it respects your system preference by default.
• Reduced motion support. If you've set "reduce motion" in your operating system, the fades, twinkles, and hover animations here quiet down automatically.
• Semantic headings and landmarks. Pages use a logical heading order with proper header, nav, main, and footer landmarks, so you can navigate by structure.
• Readable, resizable text. Type is set in relative units and reflows down to small screens and up to 200% zoom without breaking or clipping.
• Descriptive link text. Links say where they go, instead of "click here."
• Labelled forms. Every input has a real label, and errors are announced in text, not just colour.

Known limitations

I'd rather be honest than claim perfection. Right now:

• Older posts. A handful of early posts may have thin or missing alt text, or heading levels that skip a step. I'm working back through the archive.
• Third-party content. Embedded content from other services (retailer links, any embedded media) isn't under my control, and its accessibility is up to that provider.
• PDFs and printables. The free printables are designed to be printed and taped to a fridge, and they aren't yet fully tagged for screen readers. If you need one in an accessible format, email me and I'll send you a plain-text version.
• No formal audit yet. Testing so far is my own — keyboard-only passes, contrast checks, automated tooling, and screen reader spot checks. A full third-party audit is on the list.

If something on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell me — you're not bothering me, you're helping me fix it. Email hello@mymamamode.com and, if you can, include:

• The page address (or just the title of the post).
• What you were trying to do, and what happened instead.
• Your browser, device, and any assistive technology you're using — helpful, but never required.

I aim to reply within 5 business days, and to fix what I reasonably can. If something can't be fixed quickly, I'll tell you that honestly and offer another way to get you the content in the meantime.

This page gets updated

As the site changes and the known-limitations list gets shorter, this statement changes too. The review date at the top tells you when it was last checked. 🤍
